Willa Deco

The Essence of Sopot

WILLA DECO was built in 1921. Currently, after a thorough modernization, it is an intimate pension for guests who value: PEACE, COMFORT, and STYLE.

In 1919, a German entrepreneur Berrn Bauer bought an extremely charming site located at the end of one of the oldest streets in Sopot, Cecylienstrasse (now Józef Czyżewski Street). In the area formerly owned by the Sierakowski Court, he decided to build a year-round villa for his family ...

The building of WILLA DECO was built in 1921. The architectural style of the building is extremely interesting as it interweaves the features of the villa architecture of the early twentieth century and some modernist elements. The original functional layout of the villa was adapted to the needs of its users.

The building has three entrances from the front - a summer entrance through a wooden veranda, from the east - an entrance mainly used in the winter time and an entrance for the service and kitchen help at the back of the building.

The ground floor accommodated a living room, dining room, kitchen, and toilet. On the first floor, there was a master bedroom connected directly with a spacious bathroom and rooms for children and a babysitter. In the basement, there was a laundry room and several storage rooms for firewood and food.

Thorough modernization

A thorough modernization of the villa was preceded by a conservation study which determined the authentic elements requiring conservation and renovation. Most of the windows and doors have been renovated, the wooden staircase has been reconstructed in its original form including the painting.

The new function of the building required the addition of contemporary elements which clearly contrast the historical elements. The new glazed veranda and roof skylights from the garden side introduce a new architectural quality for the current villa users.
